Transportation of Brunei Fertilizer Complex

Transportation of Brunei Fertilizer Complex

Highlights:

  • Transport of more than 300,000 freight tons of equipment including containers, piping, steel structures and Heavy Lifts cargoes.
  • 51 Heavy Lifts cargoes to be transported by sea and then load in on river bank for land transport to final destination.
  • Engineering, operations supervision and management.

In order to construct Brunei new fertilizer plant 95km south from the only commercial port of the country (Muara), the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation project contractor Thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions awarded to Dextra Industry & Transport the transport of all equipment required to erect the plant on Brunei territory. This includes transports from Muara Port to site of conventional and heavy lift cargoes. Due to road regulations and obstacles for the transport of oversized heavy lift cargoes, Dextra Industry & Transport is also in charge to transship them on a material barge in Muara Port, organize and plan the sea voyage 70NM south to Kuala Belait river, offload them on the river bank and land transport them on a 34km itinerary with major obstacles by night. With its well-known expertise and experience, Dextra Industry & Transport has now successfully completed 80% of this project.

Planning, and multimodal transport methods, key factors for the success of the project

To ensure safe and successful operations in a tight delivery schedule, Dextra engineered, prepared and launched year in advance civil work modifications to overcome major obstacles on the Heavy Lift cargoes itinerary:

  • Jetty to offload the Heavy Lift Cargoes on the river bank
  • 5 bridges survey and permanent reinforcement works to allow safe passage of Heavy Lift convoys
  • Temporary and permanent raise of electrical high voltage power lines
  • Road curves works enlargement for 30 side by side axles modular trailer maneuvers

Before and during execution of the operations, Dextra is providing proficiency in multimodal transports to prepare engineering documents such as lifting, stowage, ballast, transportation plans and method statements. This combined to the supervision and management of the operations in-situ, our team has managed to safely delivered 80% of the total project equipment including the heaviest (420mT), longest (49m), widest (9m) and highest cargoes (11m). The most remarkable transport was the Absorber (48.9x6.5x6.9m – 420mT) transported on a hydraulic modular trailer 30 axles side by side.

Door to Door multimodal transport services for plant erection

Expert in Project Transport and Heavy Lift, Dextra Industry & Transport has been able to tackle the challenges efficiently without comprising safety and planning imposed by a high volume of cargoes in a short period of time in Brunei. From the preparation work, logistics, custom, permits, coordination and supervision of the operations, including the design and fabrication of transport equipment, Dextra’s experienced engineering and operation team provided specific services and solutions that suit the project’s requirements and constraints best.
