MahaNakhon Tower is a 77-storey skyscraper in Bangkok. With a height of 314 meters, it became in 2016 Thailand’s tallest building. MahaNakhon is located in Silom, the busiest business district of Bangkok, right above the BTS Skytrain station Chong Nonsi. The project is owned by developer PACE and has been built by Bouygues-Thai.

Foundations

Foundations are always a challenge in Bangkok. The city being built on sands and humid soils, foundations must be deep and most projects feature thick D-Walls to prevent water from leaking in.

For the D-Walls of MahaNakhon, Dextra supplied rebar couplers used in the D-Walls. The couplers were mounted on hook bars, installed horizontally and cast in concrete. This typical application allow to reconnect bars to the D-Wall at at a later stage when starting the slab reinforcement.

Finally, Headed Bars were also installed in the thick foundation matt. Headed bars are an advantageous substitute to hooks in congested areas, they provide high performance anchorage and are easier to install.

Superstructure

The tower is built around a corewall, erected with slip formwork, surrounded by 12 megacolumn. To connect the columns with the corewall, Dextra supplied Bouygues-Thai with its renowned Bartec solution. Bartec couplers, installed flush with the formwork and cast in concrete, allow second phrase reconnection of bars to bridge the column and the corewall.

In the mega columns, rebar couplers were also used to perform bar-to-bar vertical connecitions.

Skybar

Finally, Dextra provided Tension Bar Systems in the rooftop skybar. Tension Bars can be easily installed with their fork ends and provide an aesthetic anchorage system.
