Braila-Tulcea Bridge

The Braila-Tulcea Bridge is an under-construction road suspension bridge over the Danube river, between Braila, a major city in the east of Romania, and the opposite bank of the river in Tulcea County.

It will be the first bridge over the maritime sector of the Danube river, which will improve road traffic accessibility of the Galați-Braila area to Constanța and Tulcea, and connect Moldavia and Dobruja regions.

The suspension bridge will have a main span of 1,974m, two side spans of respectively 490m on the Braila bank of the river and 365m on the Tulcea bank of the river, along with two access viaducts of 110m length on both sides, and a connecting road with a total length of approximately 23km.

Dextra supplied 280,000 Bartec rebar couplers for the reinforcement of the suspension bridge structure.

Bartec coupler is compliant with seismic design under ISO 15835 category S2. It can withstand tension and compression of large deformation in case of violent earthquakes.

The construction of the bridge is anticipated to be completed in 2023.
