Reventazón Dam is a concrete-face rock-fill dam set up on the Reventazón River, in the Limon province of Costa Rica. The dam, inaugurated end of 2016, is the largest power station in the country with a total power capacity of 305MW. The project has become a model in term of environmental integration, featuring passages for animals.

For this major dam project, Dextra Latin America continuously delivered and supported contractor ICE from 2010 to 2016. Dextra supplied its Rolltec rebar splicing solution, couplers and machine. Rolltec is the most popular rebar slicing solution in Latin America, providing a competitive alternative to lap splices.

The rebar preparation is supported by a unique light equipment, operated by a single operator. The Rolltec machine is relatively easy to transport and convenient to install even on most remote locations such as dam construction sites.

Rolltec splices were used inside the water tunnels, installed on bent rebar. For that kind of application, the straight bar has to be threaded, then bended. Dextra Rolltec couplers were also installed into the tall structure (130m high) as a way to splice rebar vertically.
